Review of Black Water (2008) by Joseph J — 13 Dec 2011
Do not confuse this well done, frightening and edge of your seat film with duds like 'Lake Placid', or even with ok releases like 'Primeval' or 'Rouge'. This is the real deal.
Very Hitchcockian in the way that it recognizes that what you imagine is even more scary than what you see. It is a perfect length to tell its story, and works especially well because the characters come across as intelligent people who are actually interested in surviving, instead of the typical movie monster fodder that most other films feature.
Filmed in a way that makes you feel alone and isolated, the same way as its characters, who all turn in realistic and believable performances. The real star of the movie is the croc though, and there is no cheesy CGI to be found here, its all 100% real.
It becomes all the more scary when you realize that things like this happen all to frequently, and that the saltwater croc is indeed a perfect killing machine who is responsible for hundreds of human deaths every year.
