Review of Black Swan (2010) by Ryan H — 13 Jul 2014
Very dark and a little portentous- but c'mon, it's about ballet dancers and Swan Lake, what did you expect?
The film stands on the foundation of Natalie Portman's haunting transformation from beginning to end, as well as the intensely emotional direction of Aronofsky and his DP Matthew Libatique.
Clint Mansell delivers again with stunning renditions of Tchaikovsky's score, and the finale includes a transformation that would put many werewolves to shame.
Bombastic and full of itself, but it's just done so, so well.
