Review of Black Swan (2010) by Sausages M — 23 Mar 2013
Whether they meant to or not, they've created a camp classic. Natalie Portman is convincingly nuts, and Mila Kunis convincingly vampy. In the end the effect is a bit like a classical Showgirls. It's a bit too overwrought and silly to be a decent film.
It struck me as being curiously old fashioned, but that actually is one of the better features. The delicate flower and the bitch, and the delicate flower comes apart because of the machinations of the bitch.
Unfortunately thanks to Portman's delusions it's unclear how much is reality and how much is in her head, although the ending is fitting. Interesting riff on Swan Lake, I guess. But no masterpiece, although one gets the feeling it thinks it is.
