Review of Black Sheep (2010) by Rachel A — 04 Sep 2008
"There are 4 million sheep in New Zealand... and they are pissed off". I was expecting this to be a completely ridiculous, illogical, over the top movie and I was right. But for some reason I really loved it.
If the director had tried to take the concept of mutant sheep people and made a serious movie out of such a funny concept it never would have worked. Fortunately, the movie was almost as much comedy as it was horror (I especially loved the taglines: "The Violence of the Lambs" "Get the flock out of here!).
The whole "PETA-like people causing an apocalypse from releasing rabid animals" thing is a little overused but that was pretty much my only concern. I even winced at the cheesy gore a few times.
This is great for anyone who wants to watch an entertaining movie without taking any of it seriously. The ending was probably the most insane part, which is also when I laughed the hardest. I really liked how they avoided the use of special effects since I much prefer makeup and costumes(especially in a low budget film that can only afford crappy computer animations, CGI kind of takes away the effect).
I told the guy at blockbuster I rented this from "I'm renting a movie I know is bad so I won't be disappointed" but I think it was well worth my time and money.
