Review of Black Sea (2014) by Mathieu H — 03 Jun 2015
Black Sea has a great premise, and starts well, but after about 20 minutes it falls apart with one of the worst scripts I have ever listened to.
There is virtually no tension, no real development, giant leaps of logic, and after about 30 minutes you really don't give a damn about what happens.
For example:
(1) They sink to the bottom of the Black Sea after an accident, and just happen to be next to the sunken German U-boat they are seeking. After 70 years, it is still dry and intact. Right.
(2) German subs didn't have air chambers for diving, but this one did, so they got in with no problem;.
(3) The go inside and discover . . . cannibalism. LOL Seriously? No one told the director or screenwriter that they would run out of air long before they would get hungry?
(4) The gold is scattered inside the German sub. That seems realistic.
(5) They are going to the sub to get a drive shaft they need tor their own boat. Seriously--a drive shaft? How heavy is that? And it will fit a much newer Russian sub? Sure! And they are going to get that, come back, install it, and surface in . . . 36 hours? How about . . . never?
(6) Suddenly the gold is on a giant rolling car OUTSIDE the German sub and they are hauling it back.
I stopped watching it about there.
Seriously, what a waste of a a movie, and a waste of Jude Law's talents. The only thing I can say is that someone who made the movie must have compromising photos with these 82% of these reviewers who think this is a decent movie.
