Review of Black Panther (2018) by Mahwashajaz — 17 Feb 2018
Expected a lot from the film, was disappointed. Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya stole the scenes. The film rightly boasts of stunning effects and breathtaking imagination but it misses out on complex nuances for the modern world, how fighting to death for a throne is inherently regressive; glorifying monarchy and war should hardly be the biggest selling point of a culture.
The storytelling isn't compelling enough even though the visuals are. The good news about Black Panther is that it is a huge cultural and political moment for the United States. The bad news is that it could have been written a little bit better and had more to offer in the plot and pace.
