Review of Black Panther (2018) by Jacob W — 29 Nov 2018
At first the movie looked pretty good. The first scene where he stops the traffickers was great. I felt so hyped. But then it went downhill. Really downhill. For starters both the villans were pretty shit.
I can see the cousin's motivation but he was a poorly executed character overall. I dont want to say hes THAT bad of a villian. But they definitely had more opportunities to make a better bad guy.
Also the south african dude was a complete tool. Honestly. They built him up during the first fight seen with his badass fist. Just to be betrayed. Like wtf. Thats a low point in my book. Next up we have the main characters.
The girlfriend was a useless character. She did lead to some very developing moments. But otherwise she really didint DO anything. The lady who played Michonne on the walking dead though was actually ok.
She seemed to fit the spot and was the right actor for the job. But on the opposite side of her you have black panthers best friend who was just a peice of shit. Like at first hes with BP. Then he chooses his cousins side.
Then just out of nowhere he decides hes with BP because the cousin starts getting destroyed. Also the sister was condescending and annoying. She played a really important role but just filled it so terribly.
The air force guy didint really even play a part other than getting shot and was a clueless fuck the whole time. The queen was usless. And BPs uncle feels like another tool used to fill a non existent plot.
I did like BP though. And the actor for him did fairly well. Being a long time fan of the marvel comics I hated the the technology part of it. They took a beloved character and put him in a terrible futuristic scene.
They flipped the whole thing. The plot points were stupid as well. The 5th tribe was fucking DUMMY useless. I felt so sad how they managed to turn one of my favorite superheroes. And turn it into a "political point" and use him for "identity politics" like what the fuck man.
Nobody gives a shit about your dumb fucking political correctness rn when we are just trying to watch a superhero movie. There was so much potential. And had no execution. Godamnit.
