Review of Black Orpheus (1959) by Anthony D — 14 Jul 2009
A 60min film with 40mins of dancing as filler. Maybe you have to be familiar with the myth to really appreciate this, because I had more than a few problems with it. There were definitely some great elements and some fine scenes, but too much of the time for me nothing happened, which left me bored and frustrated waiting for the story to continue. I still felt some pathos at the end, which was almost destroyed by the final scene involving kids which was too cheesy.
I'd recommend it as a curiosity piece, but I don't think I'd be able to sit through it again.
