Review of Black or White (2015) by Ian G — 19 Jun 2015
One of those well intentioned films about multi-racial families that are trying to do the right thing about the next generation , particularly when the mother and father for multiple reason are not in the picture, and unfortunately Black or White seemed to be stuck in the past in terms of stereotypes when it comes to some of the characters and situations despite best efforts from Octoavia Spencer as the grandmother fighting for sole custody of her granddaughter and Costner as a burnout Grandfather whose well meaning and self made whose still struggling to have closure with the dead beat father of his granddaughter.
It almost plays like a lifetime movie the clunks along and could have been resolved an hour in, and still trying decide how to feel about the ghostly appearances of Costners wife when simple crying or some words of dialogue would have sufficed.
Below pedestrian and a poor film that happened to solid performances despite it.
