Review of Black Narcissus (1947) by Seth D — 08 Aug 2008
I hardly know where to start: the astonishingly gorgeous photography? the compelling narrative? the masterful acting? the moral presented in the story? Earlier today I watched "Rules of the Game" and was very disappointed. It's astonishing that Black Narcissus was made a mere eight years after RotG.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting a masterclass in psychological storytelling through the medium of film. I'm sure I'll be purchasing a copy of the Criterion Collection release soon and re-watching this film many times. A masterpiece...
