Review of Black Narcissus (1947) by Simona B — 28 Aug 2010
Before watching this I read short summary of the plot and I thought there was no way I was going to like this, but once again Powell-Pressburger impressed.
What is the definition of a good movie? One sure thing is a movie that keeps your attention for the duration. For something with such unappealing storyline this was extremely entertaining, which gives it the thumbs up in my book.
I simply can't believe that they basically shot this whole picture on a sound stage. Amazing cinematography and set design.
The only negative thing I can say about this movie is that I didn't quite go for Kathleen Byron's performance as sister Ruth. She was gong for the Exorcist...something a bit more toned down would have been better.
