For years now Johnny Depp has taken weirder and weirder characters that have not shown his true talent. In Black Mass he's back in a big way as Whitey Bulger. The way Depp plays this character as a man loved by his neighbors but feared by his enemies is perfect.
He is truly menacing. Though there are small script flaws, overall this is a strong film.
