Review of Black Mass (2015) by Christine P — 23 Oct 2015
You soon realise that many of the characters will meet a sticky end, which they do, to the eternally bored attitudes of the criminal gang. The action generally is slow, sets and scenes are unremarkable, themes and characters are poorly developed.
The most engaging roles are the detective team and the wives, mother and girlfriend. The major roles are flat, heavy and implausible. Depp is done to death and almost comically miscast - less would have been more.
Why the film is called Black Mass is the only mystery - there is nothing of that kind. Except that it is a long monotone.
