Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Sam C — 22 Dec 2010
A hilarious take on the blacksploitation films of old, Black Dynamite manages to fill itself with the same kind of meta humor that made I'm Gonna Git You, Sucka, well, ridiculous. We purposely see booms hovering over Black Dynamite's head, hokey editing techniques and even better dialogue quips ("I threw that shit before I even came in the room!").
There are plenty of things to love here: pimps with names like Mo Bitches, an old lady being kicked across a room, enjoyable action stuffed with cheese, etc. However, there are a few downfalls in the script that kept me from fully enjoying the movie. When Master Wu is introduced and Black Dynamite heads off towards Kung Fu Island, well, . . . eh. There are still some good bits in this final act of the film, but the drastic change of setting tore me out of the pleasant state of mind I had watching Dynamite eliminate drug dealers in the streets. Add the big finale at the "Honkey House" and you'll get my drift. As far fetched as the movie is, even if it's on purpose, you should know your limits before you possibly lose your audience.
