Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Kevin L — 27 Nov 2014
Is it a great satire or does it seem like a internet webisode that has ran too long?
This is a film that must be viewed twice. the first time watching it, I thought I was going to see some off-the-wall comedic shit, which it does have in the film. But most of the humor comes from one-liners and dry humor. I'm a fan of dry humor which is why I had to watch it again. This film does a great job in recreating a 70's blaxpoitation film, close-ups, camera zooms, choppy editing, pimps (hoes), high contrast, saturation. For a low-budget film they really captured the feel of the 70's through wardrobe, exterior and interior. But overall this movie is funny the 1st or 2nd time. It is more of a satire of blaxpoitation films than a parody. The character and the film takes itself "slightly" seriously. But it satirizes everything that blaxploitation films have, corruption in the gov't, Panthers, a Vietnam backstory, protecting the black community, kung-fu, talking jive and did I mention pimps and hoes.
