Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Martini J — 05 Sep 2010
I only watched this movie recently all stemming from one clip which involved Euphoria speaking out of turn, haha. After that I had to see it. Admittedly, that part was the only real LAUGH OUT LOUD scene in the movie, but by no means does that make it a bad movie.
This movie chock-full of just retarded scenes that make you smack your head and laugh at the same time and wonder "wow I just saw that happen". This movie has a LOT of funny moments but definitely NOT for everyone cause of the humor.
If you liked 'Undercover Brother' or remember 'Pootie Tang' (yeah I went there) it's in that vein of comedy. Just paying homage and parodying the very genre it's showcasing. Much props to the Black Dynamite crew for pretty much lifting the 70's and PAINSTAKINGLY recreating it in this film.
Unlike Undercover Brother which is set in modern time about a dude back in the 70's, this movie looks and (most importantly) FEELS this was shot in the 70's and they just unearthed it recently.
Michael Jai White is hilarious as Black Dynamite. This man would NOT break character regardless of the absurdity the movie had. Tommy Davidson is great as always. Many many cameos. The last 20 minutes run kind of long and slide into "too hokey" territory but thank goodness the last 5 picks it up and ends it in on a decent note.
This is probably one of those movies that definitely gets funnier overtime the more you watch it.
