Review of Black Death (2010) by Sam H — 22 May 2011
First of all, this movie made me really interested in the real black plague, which is quite the story. (I also learned that at the height of it's wreckage, when this film takes place, they didn't call it that.
It was the great pestilence or the great plague) Anyway, this group of religious thugs led by a love-torn monk go looking for a rumored to help them with this whole plague business. That kind of doesn't make sense to me, because they are so horrified by pagans, but whatever.
They come to a village that is spooky (and pagan!), and all black death breaks loose. The story is actually pretty good, with a disturbing and sad end. It's a German historical horror film, and let me tell you, nobody does horrific and disturbing films quite like the Germans.
So, if you like watching plagues and barbarians and pagans and the like on the History Channel or whatever, and don't mind a little gruesomeness and Medieval torture, this is right up your alley.
