Review of Black Christmas (2006) by Leanne B — 17 Apr 2010
Yet another tired remake and yet again the filmmakers miss the point of the original and think that if you add lots of gore you make a film scary. The original has a genuinly creepy atmosphere and this is largely helped by the creepy phone calls the girls recieve.
In this film we still get the phone calls but they are not scary and the film itself has no atmosphere whatsoever. The killers in this film are just silly and we know from the start that there are two, whereas this is a surprise in the original.
The killings also tend to get a bit repetitive, how many eye gougings do we really need to see? You just beceome desensitised to them. For anyone about to watch this I would say get the original instead, a much better film all round.
