Review of Black Christmas (2006) by Helen E — 07 Dec 2010
'25 DAYS OF HELLIDAY HORROR'.
#6: BLACK CHRISTMAS (2006).
This remake of the 1974 Classic actually isn't too bad. It stayed true to the original by showing all of the creepy scenes of the attic door and the strange closet. The new camera shots do give it more of a new age feelilng. The movie still has a very eerie vibe, maybe its just because it takes place during the holidays. This version also adds in the factor of a bad snow storm, an escaped psychopath from a mental hospital, and aspects of incest. all of these things together made an interestingly cheesy holiday horror movie. The backstory for the psycho Billy was just great. Note: Keep an eye out for the gruesome scene of the 'flesh christmas cookies', absolutely epic. Also keep an eye peeled (literally) for the disgusting eyeball eating scenes and the grotesque christmas tree adorned with human body parts.
Overall: It is a great watch, with quite a few 'sudden scare' moments. The acting was pretty pathetic, but what do you expect out of a movie centered around a bunch of bimbos at a sorority house. The creepy soundtrack is still there as well as the eerie camera angles. The attic does look a bit darker and scarier in the original film, but this new one will do just fine. Also the strange phone calls are creepier in the original.
*'25 DAYS OF HELLIDAY HORROR' continues with 'Christmas Evil'!
