Review of Black Christmas (2006) by Adam M — 06 Jan 2011
A horror remake of what many consider the first slasher film was inevitable and whats also inevitable is that it would have more gore, very pretty ladies and, most annoyingly, an attempt to explain why and how the horrible events have occured.
This follows the story of an escaped mental patient who returns to his old house, which is now a sorority house for a bunch of fitties( including Michelle Trachtenberg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Katie Cassidy.
Oh yes.), to kill and stuff cos thats what he does. Or did, anyway. To be fair, its got a few pretty good kills and obligatory nudity so follows the template in that respect but throwing in a twist that eventually helps explain everything, although probably fine if you've never seen the original, is so typical of these remakes and its like they're trying to hard.
Fuck the reasoning, theres a mental killer, he escapes, kills a bunch of people just because he's fucked in the head. That'll do! This isn't the worst remake i've seen though and as a horror in its own right, it isn't to bad.
I'm just glad they didn't try and recreate the disturbing end from the original which if you haven't seen, you need to see!
