Review of Black Christmas (2006) by Frisby 2 — 15 Nov 2011

I never saw the original, but paying attention to this one again, yeah, it isn't as great as I thought.

It has fine performances, hot cast members (most of them), great gore, & even some nice character depth on the villain, but that's it. The rest of the film is filled with huge plot holes, no character depth, bland dialogue, an ok story, & is a bit predictable.

The film is mediocre at best, & plain out boring at worst. Most of the characters in this movie have little do no depth, & give us no background on them, & the movie insists on us just being fine with what they give us. And don't even get me started on the massive amount of plotholes this movie has. One one point, you get a glimpse of a character, but then something completely new happened to them without any knowledge to why. No, I kid you not that this film will make you wonder what the hell happened at a certain point when it goes missing or doesn't show up ever again.

And the movie also tried to make you believe that the villain could be any of the people in the house that look suspicious, when in reality, you can't suspect them at all seeing that they give no motive to why they would. But as far as acting goes, the acting here is top notch, & great. The story is pretty solid, 6 the character depth you get from the villain of the movie makes you feel more pity for him than whoever he kills.

But all in all, the film isn't necessarily horrible, if you take it too seriously, then yeah, you should lighten up & go have some pie. But the film is just bland, & an ok holiday movie. I only recommend watching this movie ONLY if you have nothing more to watch. It is one of those movies that you have sitting in your movie piles that you'll grab once, watch it, & then toss it back in the pile to watch again after some time (guilty). But hey, it's still better than the remakes of Prom Night, & When A Stranger Calls. Calling this one of the worst horror movies is like calling The Garbage Pail Kids movie a great movie for kids.
