Review of Black Book (2006) by Joey K — 19 Jun 2008
A fascinating page out of Dutch WWII history that takes an unflinching look at both the Dutch resistance against and complicity with the occupying Nazi forces, and also a pretty harsh view toward the way some Dutch treated Jewish refugees.
It's an intrigue and suspense story focused on the efforts of a young Jewish woman to survive the occupation and aid the resistance, while finding good and bad on both sides. Paul Verhoeven is great at these kinds of heroic stories and the cast does a good job down the line.
