Review of Black Book (2006) by Tuukka P — 15 Sep 2009
Verhoeven returns to Holland and gives us his vision of the Dutch resistance during WWII. Van Houten gives a brave performance and Verhoeven has his usual tricks (full frontal nudity and graphic violence) well presented.
Extra kudos for showing us that not all Nazis were torture-happy-maniacs and not all resistance fighters brave and noble patriots. The film falls apart a bit towards the end but overall it's a different kind of war movie from the Dutch director.
