Review of Black Book (2006) by Keiko N — 24 Dec 2009
A great movie. Full of everything Verhoven holds dear, cinematic-wise, but with a smart script, that he keeps the tension high on. The cinematography and art design and costumes are all drop-dead gorgeous.
The acting is impecable, and the score is fitting. The action is handled well, and it's interesting to note how Verhoven uses sex's power here, as he does often, but here it makes several people go against orders or their own instincts, and while he has had some similar themes before, nothing has the power this one does.
