Review of Biutiful (2010) by Issac L — 21 Dec 2013
Inarritu has a penchant for non-linear story telling. I'm not sure it works so well in this movie. Initially it's hard to connect with Uxbal (Bardem's character) but slowly we get there. A man's life and how he lives and how he dies.
It's all carried on the strong back of Bardem who does the heavy lifting in this film and manages to convince you in the end that this is a great movie. Fantastic performance by Bardem who evokes emotion with the camera focusing on just Uxbal's face in close-up to convey the weight of his burden - Uxbal's life, Bardem's film.
