Review of Biutiful (2010) by Leong C — 26 Mar 2015
Beautiful. No, biutiful.
It is sad, for sure, it is about a person dieing, it could not be but sad. But it is so emotionally strong, and the emotions are, mostly, love. Or Love is a big, big part of them.
Inarritu is Mexican, not Spanish, but the relationship is close, and the movie was made in Barcelona: and I know that the relationship of the Spanish with death is peculiar. It is something special. Well, here it is, I suppose (I am not Spanish, I can guess).
There are several, many moments, emotionally so deep to be overwhelming: the second and the third meet with the father (the first goes unnoticed, of course), the crying of Uxbal in the Chinese cellar ... when the African woman, Ige, comes back home ... so many ... to enumerate them means to spoil the movie.
This movie was nominated to the Oscar, and did not win. And, to my opinion, is far superior to Birdman. Well, it happens ...
Something to see, and to see again.
