Review of Bitter Moon (1992) by Silvanus S — 30 Oct 2009
This has to be one of most rude, funny, blisteringly critical of Polanski's dark comedies since Rosemary's Baby. Peter Coyote plays a writer of very bad prose who is fancying himself as Henry Miller-in-Paris (replete with a corny-but-gorgeous Vangelis theme in the background as backdrop) who meets his Anais Nin.
It all to goes to hell from there. "Here piggy piggy!".
This is dark, gut-bursting hilarious material that spares no one from the lampoon. Not even those of us watching it! Hugh Grant is always well-cast (sometimes he is not) as a bourgeois wanderling snared in Coyote's web.
