Review of Bitter Harvest (2017) by Brian J — 25 Feb 2017
Bitter Harvest is a good movie, 3.5 out of 5. (4 out of 5 if you feel particularly connected to Ukraine).
Beautiful cinematography. Worth seeing on the big screen.
I read the critics' reviews and hesitated to bring friends to the movie. That was a mistake. It is worth seeing and I would have enjoyed discussing it afterwards. The critics seem to be comparing the movie to a standard of perfection, and this is not a super hit like Titanic, but in that same genre of romantic tales set amid tragic events. Having seen the scenes they complain about, I don't see why they are complaining. The scenes were artistic.
Hopefully this movie also helps build more awareness of historic events and how genocide can occur when the world stops paying attention.
Overall worth seeing.
