Review of Bitter Harvest (2017) by Bohdanna P — 26 Feb 2017
Bitter Harvest catches the emotins of a family and village in Ukraine going through the terror, torture and starvation artificially created under the orders of Stalin to destroy Ukraine. The cinematography is gorgeous and haunting.
You can feel the helplessness, yet unrelenting spirit of survival and quest for freedom from subjugation by the villagers and the lead characters from its Russian Stalinist neighbor. Even f you are not familiar with the horrific history of Stalin's murder by starvation of Ukrainians in the early 1930's.
The critical s who in part are either ignoramuses, or Russian trolls, are in position to judge if this movie does justice to the victims, or to have the gall to question if this starvation genocide actually took place.
That is as offensive as denying the Holocaust. In addition to relying the horrors of this period, the Ukrainian culture and traditions and their religious beliefs are highlighted throughout the movie.
Definitely, go see it! This is not your typical war movie as some critic suggested. This was not e en a war, but a genocides. Those critics have no idea of what they are talking about by showing their ignorance about what historically took place in the early 1930s.
