Review of Birth of the Dragon (2017) by Jin T — 02 Jan 2018
A controversial fight depicted as only based by true events. Well most of that is true. Bruce Lee is still one of the most prominent figures in history. Especially in the martial arts world.
Phillip Ng portrays as the man himself and I gotta say, he does it pretty damn well. It would be interesting if he took up on the role again for another part of Bruce Lee's life. Maybe the time when he was making Enter the Dragon or perhaps the last days leading up to his death.
Kung fu movies is but of a thing in the past and we only see one or two along the way. I'm sure there are a lot going in Asia. Which I think is good that they are still doing it. This movie is quite dramatic and while there's another story going on, the main attraction is the controversial fight between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man. Please refrain yourself from knowing Bruce Lee's unique style which is called Jeet Kune Do. It is not present in this movie. Instead he still posses the art of Wing Chun. I'm sure you all are familiar with such style if you've watched Ip Man.
Birth of the Dragon is another good kung fu movie and someone like me who was used to watching a lot of kung fu movies back then, this film brings me back. Especially when I watched Bruce Lee's movies like Fists of Fury and The Big Boss. Two of the most greatest films you will ever gracefully witness Bruce Lee in all his glory before he ultimately debuted the well known Enter the Dragon.
