Review of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) by Mattyice — 07 Feb 2020
While Robbie, McGregor, and most of the cast give solid performances and the action sequences truly are great at points, Birds of Prey features some problems that hamper the whole film. First off, the film doesn't feature enough of the title characters outside of the climax and the editing, unfortunately, reeks of Suicide Squad at many points and definitely should have been refined.
At the very least, unlike the aforementioned film, this film has something resembling a real plot, although the plot is pedestrian at best. Finally, the film does not use its R-rating to its full potential outside of childish profanity-laced throughout, with very little of the humor landing.
This film serves as an unfortunate step backward for the DCEU just as it felt like it found its footing.
