Though the ambitions of the meta-referencial, post-whatsit symbolism may be jarring at times, Inarritu's art critique is never overwrought, and never really takes away from the simple pleasures offered by the vivid script, complex characters, wonderful camera-work, funky soundtrack, etc, etc, etc.
