Review of Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) by Scott W — 05 Mar 2017
I appreciate the uniqueness of the camera work. There were a few times where I thought "how did they shoot that?" The one long take thing was a little gimmicky but didn't bother me. The movie was just too weird for me, and that kept me from loving it.
All the stuff with the Birdman voice and the flying through the streets took me out of the movie. I appreciate much more the quiet scenes like Emma Stone and Ed Norton playing truth or dare. I respect what Inarritu was doing, but I just don't see a Best Picture quality movie here.
