Review of Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010) by Leif T — 02 Mar 2013
Well, I'm not counting this in my Super Scary Spring, but it sure is scary. Just not for the right reasons.
Hey, have you ever wanted to see a remake of The Birds? No? Well just imagine, take out the great direction and memorable characters and what do you get? You get Birdemic, a film that's so bad, you almost expect that it was made by birds.
The story surrounds a....do I even need to tell you? This is Manos bad. In fact, it may be even worse. But in all seriousness it's about a couple who visit Northern California on vacation. But guess what? There are birds attacking! Did they not see the title? That should have been their first warning.
The acting is just awful. How bad? Well, compared to Birdemic, Tommy Wiseau gets an Oscar. Oh yeah, I said that! The acting really is just awkward. People don't speak or walk like a normal person would.
The film in a nutshell is the modern B-Movie. But where other B-Movies could be liked due to the classic feel of 50s cheese, Birdemic comes off as dull. If they had set this in the 50s and thrown in some jokes, Birdemic could be called a comedy classic. Sadly, that's not the case.
I know this review is very brief, but there's just nothing more to say. It's an awful film with awful acting. So yeah, don't watch it. And, just think, they're working on a Birdemic 2. I'll be back with that when it comes around.
But if it's so bad, why does it get a 20% you may ask. Well I've got 2, and they don't have to do with the film itself, or at least not much. One is the Rifftrax on it which is great. The other reason is the great review from Phelous.
So, unless you have Rifftrax, don't watch Birdemic under any circumstance.
