This movie was never gonna get treated fairly, in one side we have the people who have read the book who will say the classic line “The book is better” well I havent read the book and maybe you are right, maybe the book is better, it doesn’t neccesarrily mean that the movie deserves the score it gets. We also have the people who claim that its a rippoff of other films with some of the same elements such as “the happening” and “the quiet place”, think those people should really look a little closer and see that there is a major difference. And then we have the people who just for some reason gives creepy films bad reviews, its pretty common (IMO) that horror films and almost horror films get worse reviews than other genres. And then there are the people who needs answers for everything. What are the monsters. Well the monsters make you kill yourself if you see it, so if you did see it you might kill yourself right, they need to be portrayed as unfathomable. When john malkowich talks about there being 2 kind of people, the kind and the **** or whatever he says. He says that only the A-holes survive. thats why he is one, kinda, and he was rigth by not trusting anyone. only the A-Holes/psychos could live with themselves after seing the “monster(s)” that seems to me like much of the theme in this film. There is no place for too much kindness in this world. as the heisserer The screenwriter says in an interview, “I'm one who generally leans toward a hopeful or optimistic ending even in dystopian horror movies. I'm not one to embrace nihilism considering that I feel like we're living in that world now,".

I Felt like that was what he was trying to show in the movie, the psychos being that nihilism he is talking about. The monsters and psychos are not placed in the movie to be explained, they are there to give the feeling of hopelessness and maybe draw paralels to the world we live in. There are more layers to this, but I just wanted to point out my interpretation of some of the things people are most dissatisfied with, because I really enjoyed this movie, and I dont think it gets the credit it deserves. I ussually enjoy Susanne Biers movies, but this is the best IMO.
