Review of Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016) by Michael D — 24 Nov 2016
Adapted from a book that failed at being the Iraq war's Catch 22, the movie similarly fails, but is still a worthy look. Ang Lee's use of an emerging cinematographic technique is disconcerting, and reminiscent of 1980's video in some strange way.
The use of flashback ultimately fails as it breaks the action. Vin Diesel stumbles through a poorly developed role, and Steve Martin is unconvincing as a Jerry Jones knockoff. This one is bound to leave the theaters early, so catch it soon.
