Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by Matt M — 12 Jan 2013
One of the most successful and well remembered British films of the nineties, set in Northeast England, this is the comedy drama about a kid born in a working class family brought up by a scruffy and rough father who develops a passion for ballet.
The storyline is interesting and the cultural context is excellent. Touching and heartwarming, only rarely filmmaker Daldry permits the film to fall into cliché territory.
