One of my faves ever, how could you not love big trouble in little china?! it's massively likeable, and hugely fun, from the golden era of john carpenter, were he literally could do no wrong and produced classic after classic at a near yearly rate.
BTILC is, for any kid of the mid to late 80's early 90's, one of the quintessential films, a mix of east and west sensibilities long before anyone else in hollywood thought to mine the asian kung fu/chopsocky genre, pre-dating the matrix by over a decade, making this film well ahead of it's time.
This really is a wild, weird, inventive and outright bonkers movie with it's mix of high kicking action and mental supernatural fantasy, and with a fantastic performance by Kurt Russell as permanently buffudeld all time classic action hero Jack Burton, a pretty irresistible character who's comically clumsy, weary tough guy persona was meant for more films.
Add to all of the above an awesomely 80's electric keyboard score from Carpenter and the sheer, unique originality of the film and you have a real cult classic of the highest order.
