Review of The Bride Came C.O.D. (1941) by Kathleen D — 06 Apr 2008
Of the movies I have seen featuring Bette (and I have seen just about everything that is out on DVD as well as a few others), this is easily my least favorite. There have been other films where she played "bad" characters (either bad at heart or just weak women) but here, she does nothing but play the stereotypical shrew that gets dragged around by Cagney.
It's highly disappointing. I believe this came out last year as a part of the Cagney set and maybe Cagney fans will enjoy this more. Davis fans will probably want it to be one the last releases to come out on DVD when so many of her better or more interesting movies from the Warners years are not out yet.
A turkey of a romantic comedy that has forced laughs along with a lack of chemistry by the couple.
