Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by Matt L — 24 Jan 2013
What you get if you mix the bizarre, adult version of Monster Squad, Alice in Wonderland and classic supernatural kung-fu. It's definitely a weird little flick, but it's worth a viewing for Kurt Russell's usual bad-ass performance as the John Wayne-esque John Burton.
Most interesting of all is that although Kurt Russell gets lead billing and most of the marketing focuses on him he's really not the hero of the film. The film does focus on him the most, but he's more so along for the ride.
..in reality this is Wang and Egg Shen's story. Either way it's still a cool little film, but nowhere near the top of my favorite John Carpenter films list.
