Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by Jessica F — 10 Feb 2013
Classic John carpenter mismatch of crazy ideas blended with action. If you are a fan this film is for you.
Carpenter started he's career with a bang and would get progressively worst of the course of he's career. Little china was a common mismatch of genres that normally missed its box office results but found a home in the living room. This film is full of fun support characters and outrageous set pieces. The cable fight scenes were so a head of their time. Carpenter was bouncing of great films back to back and would ultimately peak with the thing.
Kurt Russell was the best character for this film. He's average joe character is so anti hero you really don't expect him to save anyone's life. The characters are likeable and hong is a good villain.
The writers were having a lot of fun especially in this eighties clash of genres. They worked well with carpenter to create a film that has lived on from well past its original poor reception. The writers created something rare and special here.
A true cult him that owes a lot to the talent involved. It was never going to win an Oscar but it is something cherished by fans. Great film if you enjoy movies that are just fun.
