Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by Grant K — 18 Nov 2013

Painfully average. Although I feel I must clarify that I like my genre straight or at least playfully ironic. Big Trouble in Little China just loves itself too much, a crying shame, given the massive potential for a batshit crazy fusion of American and Asian mythology. Instead it just ends up being bland and undaring, pandering to its audience instead of trying to raise thier expectations.

Still, three stars are going towards the fun fight scenes and a few genuine moments of suspense like you'd expect from Carpenter, but overall a weak effort.
