Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by Campbell P — 07 Jun 2015

This is one of the biggest cult movies I've ever seen. Big Trouble in Little China is really unique and odd and yet it was mesmerizing all at the same time. This film is a shoutout to old Kung fu movies and is full of well choreographed yet very over the top action sequences.

The film is about Jack Burton, a truck driver who goes to Chinatown and takes his friend Wang to the airport to meet with the girl of his dreams. Once they get there, a Chinese gang abducts Wang's girl and it goes all insane from here on out.

Like I said, this is one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen, mainly because of all the genres this movie can be categorized as. It's an adventure, a comedy, a kung fu film, an action film, a creature film at times, and even romantic on top of it all.

This film has some great action sequences that were shockingly funnier than I had imagined while still retaining its cool intentions. I laughed a lot throughout this film it's really funny and kind of parodies regular action movies in the process.

The characters have good chemistry and I can't think of an unnecessary character involved. Kurt Russell for sure steals the show, he's awesome and hilarious at the same time and I can't see very many others being able to play iconic Jack Burton.

The acting in general is pretty good, I mean no one was awful or anything. The characters were fun to watch and memorable in their own way. From start to finish, this is a nonstop action movie that rarely lost steam for me and liked it more than I thought I would.

Big Trouble in Little China is a lot of fun and has a lot of rewatch value. I liked it but at times it wasn't for me. B+.
