Review of Big Fish (2003) by Frances Ann A — 14 Jan 2012
Although well done, I felt I had seen or read everything in this movie before. Secondhand Lions came to mind, and some novels I read a long time ago. Finney is very good. Jessica Lange's role is practically non-existent. I'm curious at the reason most of the foreign-born cast was chosen and here they all attempt.
Southern accents with varying degrees of success. I wish the story had made more sense to me. Many times I wondered why Will just doesn't ask his mother to tell him the "reality" version of what happened. I also didn't really like being manipulated with the saccharine music, and the usually fluffy new agey spiritual ending. But maybe I'm just grumpy because I'm coming down with the flu.....
