You can't judge comedies like this to an Oscar worthy level, because it's not meant to be. The reason I have a strong dislike for the film is because it's such a lazy film, and it wasn't at all funny.
During the court scene at the end of the film, I repeatedly said "Bullshit" because it was just so god damn lazy. Comedies like this try to teach a moral, and the one attached to this is "Commit Crimes, if you've got a girlfriend who's a qualified lawyer and idiot friends, you'll be alright".
It really doesn't help the idea of Adam Sandler films being funny.
