Review of Big Daddy (1999) by Harry F — 01 Aug 2010
Watched this again recently... As Adam Sandler vehicles go, this one ain't too bad. The best moments are those between Sonny and his foster-child Julian - most of these scenes are touching, sweet and/or funny and the chemistry between Sandler and the young twins playing Julian is plain to see.
Unfortunately, the stuff going on in orbit around this mismatched pair is the usual Happy Madison rubbish - including a fairly insulting portrayal of a gay couple, an ex-girlfriend who is presented as a villain simply for wanting something more in a partner than a couch potato and Rob Schneider (nuff said).
The ending - an over-sentimental and unconvincing court room scene - doesn't add much to the movie either. Still, gotta love that kid...
