Review of Big (1988) by Barry N — 10 Jul 2010
It's been 22 years since its release, and it's safe to say that "Big" is a certified classic. It's a near perfect movie, and I think the third act is a bit on the weak side, but Hanks' performance, Jared Rushton and David Moscow were convincing child actors, andMarshall's simplistic yet important direction, great stuff.
Almost forgotten was that in that year, there were 4 body-switching movies, with the others disappearing pretty quickly. Somehow "Big" just resonated with more people and for a long time too.
The 130 minute extended cut does drag some unneccesary scenes along, like Billy's family, and the just-married coworker, but there are a few small things I think make the film a little better. Maybe since it's been 22 years.
We just want to see a few extra things from that world of Josh Baskin.
