Review of Bicentennial Man (1999) by Movie K — 15 Dec 2009
Quite touching movie about the robot journey to be a real human. Sam Neill bought an android helper Robin Williams. It turns out to be of unique capabilities. Once he accidentally broke a glass horse crystal of the little miss and he read books on wood carving to make and design a horse as compensation.
Sam was amazed and decides to let him have more freedom to design things and also teach him more things about human that he is not program into. Years later the girls grown up and little miss (Embeth Davidtz) got married.
After a few more years, Robin wish to have freedom. Sam reluctantly allows him to go. Robin build a house on the beach and 16 years later, Sam passed away. Robin wishes to find other android like him and goes for another decade but didn't have any result.
Then he found one android which seems to have personality but it was programmed by Oliver Platt, who is the son of the inventor of the androids. He develope a new technology which gives androids have facial expression and skin texture.
Robin funded him and also get the upgrade. Decades later he return to find Embeth and was rather shock to find her grand-daughter who look exactly like her. Then few years later the little miss died. He and the grand-daughter begins a good friendship and slowly he begans to like her.
He and Oliver starts to develope new technology to convert androids to have feelings and organs. Embeth is afraid to commit the relationship with a robot and Robin eventually convince her heart. He tried to appeal to be recognise as a human but was rejected.
Many years later still with Embeth, he finally goes through the procedure and gotten old and every bit as human as can be. On the last moments of his death laying side by side with her, they finally proclaim him the oldest living human ever recorded (200 years old) but he passed away just a few seconds before he can hear that.
