Review of Bicentennial Man (1999) by Scott H — 13 Jan 2011
Say what you want about Robin Williamsâ(TM) output in the 90s. Say what you want about films that feature a robotic man learning how to feel human emotions. Say what you want about Oliver Plattâ(TM)s limited filmography despite his talents.
There is something about Bicentennial Man that I like and Iâ(TM)m not afraid to admit it. Trading in on every feel-good, tear-jerking clichà (C), it spans several decades and paints a rare Utopian view of the future.
Perhaps the very reason why it is so generally maligned. Its cheesy and overly dramatic. I could see how it could annoy you. But Iâ(TM)ve stumbled across it a number of times on late night tv and found myself sitting through til the end.
That has to count for something.
