Review of Bicentennial Man (1999) by Josh J — 22 Jul 2009
Bicentennial man is, in my personal opinion, quite a heartwarming movie. I was entertained and moved by it. The characters aren't flat as some other movies I could mention, and the movie has a nice lesson to be learned by it.
Admittedly I didn't laugh at many of the jokes.
Robin Williams is a funny man and playing a robot is somewhat limiting for him. Although he does bring a magnificent charm to the main character Andrew and makes him genuinely likable.
The movie drags towards the end, when the daughter of Andrew's closest friend's becomes his new love interest, and many of the scenes with her were awkward, and the daughter's character is lacking. She seems to, at least at first, be the independent, loudmouthed Klingon of the movie, and it gets tedious to hear her after a while.
Later she mellows and the movie becomes watchable again.
In fact towards the end I found myself wanting more from this movie, although admittedly make the movie any longer and you'd have to use the erosion of a rock to measure how long it takes.
All and all this movie is heartwarming, filled with sweet moral lessons, romance, and the occasional annoying lady that looks like a Klingon.
All those (but the last one) make this movie a nice pick-me-up for any moviegoer with time to invest in this movie.
